PlateKin is a food journal for parents and caregivers. A child profile is managed by the adult using the app; children do not have separate PlateKin accounts. Journal entries can include information about a child, so please add only the details you need.
Information in the app
Depending on the features you use, PlateKin can store:
- Child profile details such as a name or nickname, age, feeding stage, allergies and food preferences.
- Meal entries, dates, foods, approximate portions, notes, saved recipes and meal plans.
- Meal photos you choose to add to your journal.
- The sign-in email and account identifier provided by the account service you choose to connect.
- Subscription and entitlement information used to provide PlateKin Pro features.
- Messages and contact details you choose to send to PlateKin support.
Where your journal is stored
On your device
Your journal is stored locally on your device. Staying signed out keeps it local; PlateKin does not create a guest cloud backup. Photos are kept in the app’s local storage.
Optional cloud sync
Cloud sync starts only when you connect a supported account and have an active PlateKin Pro subscription. Signing in by itself does not upload your journal. When sync is active, journal records are stored with a cloud database provider, and meal photos are sent through an authenticated transfer service to private cloud storage. A photo is resized and compressed before upload. Sync stops when account or Pro access is unavailable; previously synced records may remain until they are deleted. Email us to request removal of cloud-synced data.
Sign-in, subscriptions and outside services
PlateKin uses service providers for specific parts of the app:
- An account service handles sign-in and provides the account you choose to connect.
- Authentication and cloud database services handle account access and synced journal records.
- A cloud storage service receives meal photos through authenticated transfer and stores them privately.
- A subscription service helps confirm PlateKin Pro access. Payments are processed by your app-store provider; PlateKin does not receive full payment-card details.
These service providers handle information under their own privacy and security policies. Email PlateKin support if you need the current provider list.
To provide sign-in, sync, subscriptions and security, these services may also process technical details such as an IP address, app or device information and transaction identifiers. They may process information in countries where they or their service providers operate.
Suggestions and AI-labelled screens
In the current app, recipe matching and meal suggestions use rules included in the app and information already on your device. Open-ended AI chat is not connected to a model. Journal information is not sent to a generative AI service by these screens.
Food variety and portion estimates are for keeping a journal. They are not a nutrition assessment, diagnosis or medical advice.
How we use and share information
We use information to run the journal, keep optional sync working, check a subscription and respond to support requests. We do not sell journal information or use it for targeted advertising. This website does not use analytics or advertising trackers.
Our hosting provider may process basic technical request information, such as an IP address and requested page, to deliver and protect this website. The website serves its fonts and images from the same host and does not use analytics cookies.
Your choices and requests
- Keep using PlateKin signed out to keep your journal local.
- Use the in-app local export if you want a copy of your journal.
- Email us to request access to, correction of or deletion of cloud-synced information. We may need to confirm the account before acting.
- Manage or cancel a subscription through your device’s app-store account settings.
Local information is managed on your device. Removing the app may remove its local data, subject to your device backup settings. Cloud deletion requests do not remove copies that you separately exported or saved.
Security and retention
We use the access controls provided by our app and hosting services. The app does not use end-to-end encryption, and PlateKin is not a secure medical record. Cloud-synced information may remain in the services while sync is in use and until a deletion request is completed. Service providers may retain limited records as needed to operate or protect their services.
